Worship Song Stories: Provider

Inspiration:

Definitive Worship’s new album, Sound of the House, features a song on Track 10 called Provider. The team and I wrote this song together after we were inspired by Jesus’ miracle in John 6 where He fed 5,000 men plus women and children with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. After performing this miracle, Jesus told the disciples, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)

The thing that stood out to me and inspired the idea for writing this song was that God ALWAYS provides us with whatever we need. He not only provides food, finances, miracles, etc but He always gives us more than what we need! He gives us more than enough!

Creation:

From the beginning of creation, God has ensured that His people had everything they needed. He provided Adam and Eve with food in the garden by giving them plants, trees, and more.

Genesis 1:29, “And God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.’ ”

God is also so faithful that He also provided the animals with food!

Genesis 1:30, “And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.”

He gave us this earth to take dominion and enjoy, giving us everything that we need for life! He supplied us with food, air, water, shelter, and everything we needed down to even the smallest detail.

Wilderness:

Jesus declared this faithfulness of the Father reminding the Israelites of when God provided manna for them in the desert. They did not yet know that this was only a foreshadowing of Jesus’ body, which was going to be broken for them.

John 6:32-33, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

Eternal Life:

God the Father provided for them at creation, in the wilderness, and now Jesus was going to provide them with eternal life!

John 6:47-51, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

If you partake of Jesus’ body and blood, He provides you with eternal life with Him forever!

Verse Lyrics:

We wanted to capture this idea in our verses for this song,

Verse 1:

“You have given me everything

Every breath I breathe is from You

You have given me all I need

Nothing can sustain me like You do”

Verse 2:

“You have given me life within

Every word You speak I cling to

You have given me purpose

Every empty void is filled by You”

Everything God creates He created for a specific purpose, for fulfilling an assignment. Just like all of creation, He created people for a specific purpose. Each of us has a unique assignment, calling, and purpose that God put us on this earth to fulfill!

Psalms 107:9 says, “For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things.”

Bridge Lyrics:

What’s even crazier to think about is that not only does God supply us with everything we need, which already is such a blessing, but He Himself IS everything we need. In the bridge of the song we declare these words:

“All I could ever want, all I could ever need

All I could ever ask for is right here in front of me”

His presence completes us! It satisfies the deepest longings and desires with unspeakable joy, comfort, love, and peace. He alone can provide your soul with more than enough hope, love, confidence - whatever it might be! If you are in need, He will fulfill it!

Verse 3 Lyrics:

In the last verse of this song we sing,

“You have given me everything

Every breath I breathe is for You

You have given me eyes to see

All I could ever need, You’ve place in me”

He has given me everything I need to be successful in the Kingdom, because He has given me HIM!  The most encouraging thought about this to me is that God didn’t create me to fulfill some purpose that’s impossible to achieve. He has already given me everything that I need to fulfill the calling that He has assigned to me! I can trust that He will give me the exact portions I need, the right connections, the right people, the resources and not only just enough - but MORE than enough! Our God is so faithful that He always goes over the top, always does more than expected, He is the God of abundance!

Abundance:

If you remember the story we mentioned at the beginning of the blog about Jesus feeding the 5,000 plus people, you might recall that after all the people were satisfied the disciples gathered 12 basketfuls of left-overs! God didn’t just feed all the people to their satisfaction, but He went above and beyond! He gave them more than enough and that’s same exact thing He does for us as His people too!

Our God is the God of abundance! Whatever you are in need of He can supply you with, because He is more than enough! Believe for that today, reach out to Him and He won’t leave you empty handed.

Philippians 4:19-20, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
